Upgrading and rolling back #
This page provides instructions for upgrading from the Starburst ODBC
driver v2 series to the v3 series, and how to roll back from the v3 series to
the v2 series.
Upgrading #
The Starburst driver v3 series is a drop-in replacement for the v2
series. The upgrade process is seamless for most users.
Upgrade process #
When you install the Starburst driver v3 series on a system with an
installed v2 series driver:
- The v3 series installer automatically removes the v2 series driver.
- The v3 series is installed in the same location as the v2 series driver.
- Existing DSNs from the v2 series driver remain accessible in the ODBC Data
Sources Administrator window.
DSN compatibility #
- Viewing DSNs: You can view and use existing v2 series DSNs without making
any changes.
- Modifying DSNs: If you modify and save a v2 series DSN, the installer
upgrades it to the v3 series configuration format.
- One-way upgrade: Once you save a DSN with v3 series settings, you cannot
open it with the v2 series driver without losing configuration settings. See
the rollback process for more information.
Application compatibility #
The Starburst driver v3 series has been tested with the following
applications:
- Power BI
- Tableau
- SQL Server (via linked server)
- Excel
If you are using other applications and encounter any issues, contact
Starburst Support for assistance.
Rolling back #
If you need to roll back from the Starburst ODBC driver v3 series to the
v2 series:
- Restore DSN configurations:
- Open a command prompt as an administrator.
- Navigate to the driver installation directory (the default is
C:\Program
Files\Starburst ODBC Driver
).

starburst-dsn-restore-x64.exe
.
- This restores any DSNs that were upgraded to v3 series back to the v2
series format.
- Uninstall the v3 series
- Use the Windows Add or remove programs feature to uninstall the
Starburst ODBC driver v3 series.
- Install version 2:
