  • Cross-region support #

Cross-region support allows you to add catalogs from different regions to the same cluster so that you can query data sources across different regions. Data can be read and written across multiple regions within the same cloud provider. For example, add catalogs from both AWS us-east-1 and us-east-2 regions.

You can add regions when you create or edit a cluster. Another method is available when you use the Add to cluster link in the catalog explorer’s catalog level.

Querying data sources across regions applies only to regions within the same cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Starburst Galaxy supports the following JDBC catalogs for cross-region querying:

    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • MySQL
    • MariaDB
    • PostgreSQL
    • Amazon Redshift
    • Azure Synapse
    • Snowflake

    Limitations #

Autoscaling is disabled for clusters used with cross-region catalogs. There is a 10GB limit per worker for write queries and a 20GB limit per worker for read queries.

Contact Starburst support to raise these limits.

    Cost #

There are associated data transfer costs when queries are executed across regions.
